Google is now starting a new feature called "Instant Google" which guesses what you're looking for as soon as you start typing in its main search page.
The function, which will run over several days for people using the latest browsers, performs the search box and shaded with words, you start typing - trying to complete your thoughts before you type.
During a press conference in San Francisco that was also posted on YouTube, Google Vice President Marissa Mayer called "looking at the speed of thought" and attacking "Quantum Leap" for research.
Google says researcher typically takes more than 9 seconds to enter a term, and "several" searches took 30-90 seconds to type. He believes Google will instantly save two to five seconds for each search. From the release:
Our idea was this technical type of people slowly but read quickly, usually taking 300 milliseconds between keystrokes, but only 30 milliseconds (one tenth of the time!) To view another part of the page. This means that you can scan a page of results as you type. We'll see how it works for people who take 90 seconds to type a search query.
But Google still instantly change the way many people use Google and could shake up the search marketing industry.
Some users may find annoying or creepy and disable the feature, although most probably will not bother to change the default setting.
Search Marketing will have to rethink their complicated strategies to push their sites higher in Google results. The gold ring is now to bring a company to appear automatically as people start typing.
A wonderful thing about Google's search algorithms is equal to how they try to level the ground and expose people to a breadth of information on the web. I wonder if serendipity and discovery that comes to research will be sacrificed just for convenience and speed.
It's like over-engineering library. The transaction would be most effective to have a librarian Standing by the door, give you a book that you step inside, thinking that's what you like. Why bother to look any further?
Google is not the instantaneous speed of your research and saves people time.Google is already very fast, but he is probably tired of saying that Microsoft Bing is more effective.
What is the faster the rate of innovation is happening in the research enterprise, now that Bing get a certain scale.
Last update comes shortly after Google search partnership with Yahoo Microsoft has taken effect. Together, they gave Bing a great leap of market share - 24.56 percent in the last week of August, according to a report from Experian Hitwise yesterday.
Experian report said that people were using shorter queries on search engines.Longer queries, an average of five to eight words long, was down 2 percent from July to August, and queries of two words represented 23.71 percent of searches. Google handled 71.59 percent of searches during the entire month.
