Google Instant speeds up search

Google introduced Google Search Instant Wednesday with the results given to users as they enter the letters of words - not even their own words. The change should save users 2-5 seconds for each search, the company said."It's a fundamental change in the research, the speed and ease with which people can find information," said Melissa Mayer, Google's vice president of search products and user experience during a news conference that Google itself posted on YouTube (it owns)."This is not a search as you type, it is research before you type," she said. For example, from the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, where the news conference was held, she typed the first four letters of "Fauvism" - and discussed the results for the movement of early 20th century in painting based solely on the first four letters. With Google instant, "we really predict what application you're likely to make and give you the results that," she said.Just by typing the letter "W", for example (try it in the search box), raises the first two results in gray below the search box: Wal-Mart and the weather. (Third is Wells Fargo). Type "G" - and "Gmail" is the first.Co-founder Sergey Brin said Google Instant is "just a piece of a very changing landscape in the calculation ... (who) will change the way you interact with computers" in the coming years.Brin, like a light side, noted that the company focus is "making Google the third half of your brain." Funny in a scary kind of way - and probably not far from the truth, with many of us rely on the information society.Google provides instant results "instantly in a way that has never been done before," said Jonathan Effrat, product manager for Google, in an instant video on Google (see below). "Now, the results appear automatically as you type, without having to hit enter or click the Search button. Once you see what must specify in the text of gray you can stop typing and just look down to find the results you expected .. see the results instantly, you can refine your search as you type - the search for a bird? card? A recipe? You'll know instantly if you're on the right track to finding what you want. "The research approach aims to "put users 2-5 seconds per application," said Mayer."This may not seem like much, but ultimately save more than 3.5 billion seconds per day, or" 11 hours per second. "Instant Google includes predictive modeling - "it's not quite psychic, but he is intelligent," said Hansson Othar, Google senior engineer - and "scroll research" to scroll the predictions and see immediately results for each arrow down like you.To reassure users who may just want to keep typing in the search box without paying attention to changes, "said Mayer," Google works seamlessly as it always has. All Instant Google does as you accelerate.Ben Gomes, who holds the title of Google Distinguished Engineer, said instant AJAX integrates Web applications. AJAX is used to create points doodly that Google used its homepage to search Tuesday and Wednesday, teasing the users on the changes were afoot.Building AJAX search, rather than relying on a static HTML page, was "not a simple problem," said Gomes. But he said: "This is the future direction of research, it makes the search much more pleasant, fluid, interactive, and in so doing, you learn more and enrich your life."Instant is available immediately in the United States, and in the coming weeks in other countries in the world, "said Mayer. First place is Great Britain, France, Italy, Germany, Spain and Russia. Google said it will instantly available for mobile devices this fall.Google recently launched a website for users who want to sift through news, reviews and other information on the Internet in real time, allowing them to monitor conversations on social networking hubs like Facebook and Twitter in one location. While some other efforts by Google, including Buzz and the company's own phone Nexus, have stumbled, Google search remains the king and it is crucial for her to remain king of search. Google has about two-thirds of the search market in the U.S., but faces slighty erosion of market shares of Yahoo, which has partnered with Microsoft. (Msnbc.com is a joint venture between Microsoft and NBC Universal.)Texas Attorney General last week the state has confirmed it has launched an investigation into the Google search, spurred by complaints that the company has abused its power as an engine of the Internet search dominance.
